Do you ever feel like you have a million little things to do?
…And nowhere near enough time for all of them?
Plenty of managers and business owners feel the same way. Even the most well-organized leader can start to feel a little overwhelmed from time to time, especially during their busy season or when their personal lives become unexpectedly demanding.
Unfortunately, this means that the seemingly-small things on their to-do list tend to keep getting pushed down to the bottom. “Seemingly” being the key word.
With all that in mind, here’s a surprisingly important question to ask yourself: when’s the last time you updated the firmware for your Xerox printer?
Xerox occasionally rolls out firmware updates which offer a ton of benefits to the end-user, including but not limited to:
- Software enhancements
- Bug fixes
- New features
- Security upgrades
As you can see, these updates are intended to make your life in the office easier—especially bug fixes and security upgrades, both of which are important.
Let’s take a look at setting up automatic updates and how to check if you have the latest firmware upgrades for your Xerox printer:
Do You Have Automatic Updates Enabled & Configured?
The next chance you get, go to your printer’s configuration settings. You can either find the firmware version listed there, or you can instruct your device to print out a configuration report, which is a single sheet packed with details—it includes a lot of handy (or at the very least interesting) information about your printer.
While you’re in the system settings, see if your printer is configure to download automatic updates. If not, it’s a great time to set them up.
If you’re using ConnectKey version 1.5, you can use the Firmware Connect app to check for updates and install them quickly, or set up automatic updates. For ConnectKey version 1, you can install the Automatic Firmware Updates Solution via the web interface.
Xerox MFP automatic updates are designed to be as convenient as possible. Use the scheduling system to set updates to only happen at night (or other non-working hours).
Why Bug Fixes & Security Updates Are Especially Important
Perhaps the most important reasons to upgrade your Xerox printer firmware are the bug fixes and security upgrades. Bug fixes will prevent most software-related problems. While rare, these issues can occasionally cause physical issues as well (e.g., paper not loading properly). In our experience, Xerox is extremely fast with rolling out fixes.
Security upgrades, of course, are very important. Whether you use cloud printing services or require employees to use access codes or other authentication methods, ensuring that newly-discovered security flaws get patched quickly means that your data will continue to remain safe.
